History

August 1988: The American Eye Institute opens the American Eye Institute Surgical Division exclusively for the performance of ophthalmic surgery. Medicare approved and State Board Licensed since inception, the Surgical Division opened with two OR suites and both YAG and Argon lasers.

June 1997: The American Eye Institute Surgical Division is acquired by the NovaMed Eyecare Group. The Division will now operate under the name of the NovaMed Eye Surgery Center of New Albany.

August 2006: The American Eye Institute and John-Kenyon Eye Centers merged. Performing numerous cataract, refractive and laser procedures annually, the Center prides itself in maintaining a professional medical staff of three practicing physicians as well as a full-time medical staff and support staff.

April 2011: Surgery Partners of Tampa, Florida purchases NovaMed, Inc. The
ASC will continue to DBA the NovaMed Eye Surgery Center of New Albany.

May 2018: EyeCare Partners, LLC of St. Louis, MO. purchased John Kenyon Eye Centers and NovaMed Eye Surgery Center of New Albany. The ASC was renamed the Eye Surgery Center of New Albany, LLC.

November 2018: Two surgeons from Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers of Louisville joined the ASC medical staff bringing their Southern Indiana cases to this exclusive ophthalmic ASC.

Community

Located at 520 W. First Street in New Albany, Indiana our center is approximately ten minutes from the downtown metropolis of Louisville, Kentucky. The local area of Floyd County has an approximate population of 125,000. These two local communities are home to such internationally recognized manufacturers such as Beech Mold and Tool, Ford Motor Company, UPS and General Electric. Least we mention the national attention the blossoming Louisville, Kentucky bourbon industry has recently garnered.

The locality is also nationally known for the multitude of medical specialties located in downtown Louisville, these include the Leatherman Spine Center, James Graham Brown Cancer Center, Jewish Hospital, Norton Children’s Hospital as well as the widely respected KY Lion’s Eye Bank.

The Eye Surgery Center of New Albany works in cooperation with the medical staff and their respective offices to provide excellent ophthalmic care with a focus on patient experience and outcomes.
